Concussions and Homeopathy

Yesterday, a woman told me she had suffered a concussion three weeks ago. And she was not quite feeling like herself. She had received no medical attention.

Today, a young man arrived at my house to work on my AC unit. He proceeded to tell me that he had suffered a concussion. Two days earlier, he had hit his head three times while working on a job. He went to a medical facility, where they shone a light in his eyes to check his pupillary response. He was told he was fine and was sent home.

While he was in my house talking to me, I noticed that his pupils appeared quite small, even though the room was not particularly bright.

He told me he had not felt well since hitting his head. There was also blood on his pillow. He was unable to finish job due to not feeling well.

These two conversations really brought home to me how important it is to take head injuries seriously.

In January 2025, I fell and did significant damage to my face and head. I did seek medical attention. It turned out that I had a small brain bleed.

I would not have known about the brain bleed if I had not sought medical care.

Brain bleeds need medical attention.

Concussions also deserve medical attention.

Did I want to go to the ER? No.

Am I glad I went? Absolutely.

According to Mayo Clinic, symptoms of a concussion may include:

  • Headache

  • Dizziness

  • Fatigue

  • Irritability

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Trouble falling asleep or sleeping too much

  • Poor concentration and memory

  • Ringing in the ears

  • Blurry vision

  • Sensitivity to noise and light

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Neck pain

Mayo Clinic also advises seeking medical attention after a head injury that causes confusion, memory loss, vision changes, nausea, vomiting, or a sudden, severe headache. Medical attention is recommended even if you never lost consciousness.

To the best of my knowledge, I did not lose consciousness.

After I was helped up from my driveway, I went inside my house.

While preparing to go to a local urgent care facility, I started taking homeopathic Arnica. Please note: I am not referring to an herbal tincture of Arnica. I am referring to homeopathic Arnica.

I also used Bach Flower Rescue Remedy for the shock and emotional trauma I experienced from the fall.

Arnica is traditionally used in homeopathy for injuries, including injuries involving the head. In my experience, it was an important part of my recovery.

I continued taking Arnica on the way to urgent care, while at urgent care, during my hospital stay, and while recuperating at home.

I also used medications and followed the recommendations prescribed by the medical professionals who treated me. I completed all pharmaceutical medication as directed.

The medical staff seemed somewhat surprised by my level of alertness and my rate of improvement. Don't get me wrong—the recovery from my fall was a long process. Almost a year and a half later, I am still dealing with some lingering effects from the fall.

But my anecdotal experience is that Arnica was very important to my recovery.

In fact, I had a plastic surgeon suggest that I use Arnica to help with the bruising on my face. Imagine his surprise when I told him I was already using Arnica!

I also used Natrum Sulphuricum in the tissue/cell salt form for the headaches and pain I experienced following my fall. Traditionally, Natrum Sulphuricum has been associated in homeopathic practice with complaints following head injuries.

Again, I can honestly say that, in my personal experience, the tissue/cell salt Natrum Sulphuricum helped with the headaches and pain I experienced after my fall. My pain was concentrated in the area where my forehead hit the pavement and where the brain bleed occurred.

Since I originally wrote this, I have become aware of yet another person who fell on their face and suffered a concussion.

It seems like a good time to repeat the message:

Please seek medical attention for all head injuries. Err on the side of caution.

Homeopathy can be part of how you care for yourself, but it should not replace appropriate medical evaluation after a head injury.

Take care of your brains!

They take care of you.

In Health,

Annette
